A Godly Legacy

| Group Study

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

1 | moms and grandmas

Paul wrote the letters we know as 1st and 2nd Timothy to a man who had been handed a Godly legacy.  Timothy's grandmother and mother must have been pretty amazing women for Paul to mention them like this in his letters.

We've all got some amazing women in our lives.  What is the greatest thing about your mom or grandma (or motherly figure in your life)?

2 | foundations

If we really want our youngters to lead good lives - they need a firm foundation.  They need to know who they are, and where their strength comes from.  If this foundation has holes in it - they may spend years trying to figure out what fits there.

Can you think of a portion of your foundation that was missing from your childhood?  What did it take to fill it?

Whose responsibility is it to lay the foundation in a child's life?

scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5, Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:6-9

3 | passing it on

Timothy started walking in faith and believing because of the faith of his mother and grandmother.  But, the tradition of the day was for sons to follow in their fathers footsteps.

Later in life, Paul takes an interest and starts discipling Timothy.  Clearly, Paul wasn't worried about who should be mentoring the young man - he just did it.

Is there someone in your life that you could be mentoring or discipling?  Why have you/haven't you taken the steps to do it?

scripture: Titus 2:2-6, Psalm 71:18

4 | genuine

Genuine Faith is something worth pursuing!  In fact, we could probably all give examples of people we know who have "genuine faith."

But what is it, really?  How would you define it?  How do you know when someone has genuine faith?

scripture: James 2:14-24, 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
