The One | Group Study

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

1 | celebration

When the kids have won a big game, or somebody just performed in a concert or won an award; celebration is in order!

Where is your favorite place to go for a celebration?
Food or just dessert?

2 | 1 vs. 99

Jesus was all about the ONE.  He ministered to crowds and he had compassion for the multitudes, but his purpose was to save that which was lost (the Ones).

Jesus' one-on-one encounters with people are the most memorable stories in the bible.  Have you experienced someone going out of their way to help you?  Have you been the one?  How did it feel?

scripture: Matthew 18:11-14, 1 Corinthians 9:22

3 | certification

Fear and a lack of training are two reasons we often don't reach out to the One.  Pastor Jim illustrates that neither would stand in the way of us helping in a visible crisis.

So, with people's eternal destiny at stake - why don't we do something?  Surely, the crisis is just as vital as a child in the lake - yet we often procrastinate, neglect, or even ignore the responsibility we have to share the truth.  Why is this?

scripture: Matthew 9:37-38, Romans 1:16, Acts 1:8

4 | none should perish

2 Samuel 14:14 says, Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But that is not what God desires; rather, he devises ways so that a banished person does not remain banished from him.

Scripture is full of examples and stories of God restoring humanity to him.  It is obviously His heart to be reconciled with us.  In light of this, how do you explain the idea of hell?  Why would there even be a place like that?  Do you think avoiding hell is part of our motivation to become Christians?

scripture: 2 Peter 3:9, 2 Samuel 14:14, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
