Difference Makers | Group Study

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

1 | one life to live

You've only got one shot at life on Earth.  So, what are you going to do with it?  The "bucket list" has become a popular cultural idiom meaning: something I want to do before I die (kick the bucket).

So - what's on your bucket list?  What is one thing you definitely want to do?

2 | one at a time

Jesus ministered to large groups and in one-on-one scenarios.  Pastor Jim points out that the largest impact Jesus had on people was always the result of a personal meeting - not a sermon or being just one in a crowd.

If real discipleship happens one person at a time - whose job is it to make it happen?

scripture: Ephesians 4:11-12, 1 Corinthians 11:1, John 4:1-42

3 | as miserable as me

A hardhearted, crass attitude towards people who need help is an unhelpful and unchristian attitude.  As Christians, we look at all people as creations made in the image of God - and the clear call is to help.

What are some common reasons or rationalizations for not helping when someone is broken or hurting?  Can you imagine Jesus using the same reasons?

scripture: Deuteronomy 15:7-11, 1 John 3:17-18, Acts 20:35

4 | pulled from the fire

How can we reach a world we never touch?  Many Christians advocate for a total separation from the world because of the rampant sin in it.

The sins of the world are a clear and present danger - and yet Jesus calls us to engage that same world.  How do we balance this?  How can we be "in the world and not of it?"

scripture: Jude 1:23, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, 1 John 2:15-17
