Group Study

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

1 | The holy spirit

Pastor Jim talks about Jesus and his disciples being filled with the Holy Spirit which gives them power to perform miracles. Does the Holy Spirit work like this today?  Are things like healing, prophecy, and miracles still performed?

What does Jesus mean in John 14:12 when he says that those who believe in him will do greater things than his own works?

scripture: Acts 2:1-12, John 1:32-34, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

2 | the identity of jesus

Nathaniel mistakenly made presumptions about who Jesus was, based on his hometown.  Still today, many people think they know who Jesus is based on limited information.

Did you have any misconceptions about Jesus before you met him?

Now, who do you say Jesus is?  How do you describe him?

scripture: John 1:43-51Matthew 16:13-20

3 | do something

What is the "something", we as Christians are supposed to be doing?  hint: Matthew 28:19-20

What are some practical ways you've seen "doing something" lived out?

4 | what you take with you

The end result of sharing the identity of Jesus with someone and obeying the Great Commission (doing something) is another soul in heaven.

How should this color our thinking about those who do not yet know Christ?  How should we treat unbelievers?  Is there or should there be separation?

scripture: Colossians 4:5-6, 2 Corinthians 6:14-15
