Group Study

Watch the short clips below, and answer the questions associated with each.  You can do this alone - but it's always more fun with a group of friends!

Be sure to read/study the scriptures in each section.  God's word is the standard by which we measure all our thoughts and ideas.

1 | least, last, lost

Through Jesus, the least, the last, and the lost become the most, the first, and the found.  Read through a few scriptures that illustrate this point.

Can you think of any other scriptures, bible stories, or real world stories that illustrate this truth?

scripture: Matthew 18:4, Matthew 18:13, Matthew 19:16-30

2 | simeon

Luke 2:25 says that Simeon was devout.  What does it mean to be devout?  Why would you want to be devout?  What are the benefits?

The text also says that Simeon was waiting for the consolation of Israel.  What does this mean?
Definition of consolation

scripture: Acts 10:2

3 | don't give up

Simeon had been waiting a long time in patience for a promise to come.  How long have you waited, with a concentrated focus, on one prayer?

Is there something you are waiting on now that seems to be a long time coming?  What encouragement would you offer someone who is discouraged with the wait?

scripture: 2 Peter 3:9, 1 John 5:14-15

4 | anna

Anna never left the temple, worshiping God with prayer and fasting, night and day.

Have you ever thought of fasting as a valid form or worship?  A necessary thing for a Christian to do?

scripture: Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-17, Isaiah 58
